Saying Grace

Mealtimes are such an important part of family life.  Whether it is a romantic dinner for two, a wedding feast, coffee and cake shared by friends, a birthday celebration ... or just a family gathering at the end of an ordinary day, sharing a meal opens us up to life. It bonds us, we hear each other's stories and we are nourished, both physically and emotionally, by the experience.

Saying Grace together can be a very simple way for families to pray together.  It is usually a short prayer giving thanks for the meal but why not extend that thanks to things that have happened that day...
Dear God, I thank you for my friend, Jane...she makes me laugh!
Dear God, I thank you for the successful completion of my project at work!
Dear God, thank you for the beautiful day that let me get five loads of washing done!

If you would like to try a more traditional prayer, there are some versions below:
Bless us, O Lord,
and these your gifts
which we are about to receive
from your goodness
Through Christ our Lord.
Amen

Lord God
Thank you for your gifts of food and family.
Bless our food and those who have prepared it.
Bless our day and all who are part of it.
Amen
Bless us,
Lord God of all creation,
and be with us
as we share this meal.
We thank you for our food
and ask your blessing
on those who have prepared it.
We remember those in need.
We thank you for our family.
Bless our conversation
and draw us close to you.
Amen
Superman Grace
(Tune of Superman Theme Song)
Thank you God, for giving us food
Thank you God, for giving us food
For all your blessings
For all your blessings
Thank you God, for giving us food.
Amen.
